Tips for a More Abundant Mindset

When a lot of people think of the word abundance they think of money and wealth. While this is definitely a form of it, abundance can come in all forms - happiness, health, and relationships, to name a few. In my opinion, your mindset plays a huge role in what you attract into your life; having an abundant mindset is the key to being abundant in all aspects of life.

Here are some things I do to have a more abundant mindset and in turn a more abundant life:

Journal

Gratitude journaling is one of my favorite types of journaling. Writing down things I’m grateful for helps me recenter my mindset to the positive things in my life. Some days I can fill up a whole page of things I’m grateful for. On days I’m struggling to find happiness, writing down just 2 or 3 things that I’m grateful for make all the difference. I’ve found that when I take the time to be grateful for even the littlest things in life, there’s a snowball effect. When I’m grateful, I appreciate more things in life, which makes me happier and radiate more kindness to the people around me, which helps me attract more abundance into my life.

Another type of journaling I do to have a more abundant mindset is writing affirmations. I actually went through my journal a few weeks ago and over the past year have written over 100 different affirmations. It was fun to see everything I was manifesting throughout the year. My favorite affirmation right now is ‘my grateful heart attracts all that I desire’. I love this because it not only focuses on attracting everything that I desire (abundance), but it stems from a place of gratitude.

Yoga

Yoga, especially beach front yoga, is one of my favorite ways to stay grounded and centered. Yoga has a plethora of mental, emotional, and physical health benefits, including, increased flexibility & strength, mental clarity, relaxation, and stress relief.

I tried getting into yoga quite a few times throughout my life. Growing up, I remember going to yoga classes with my mom and sister every now and then. In college, my friends and I did a yoga class every other week or so but only during our first semester. Both times, it never really stuck. I really got into yoga in 2020 as a way to find inner peace. It was a mental and physical challenge, but I stuck with it and did it every morning in my living room for a few months. I loved starting my morning with intention in this way and pushing my body’s physical limits with different balancing techniques. I will say that those few months of my life I felt the most connected spiritually and my mindset was full of abundance. I attracted a lot into my life during those few months and I believe it was because of my mindset.

I’ll be honest, since then I don’t practice yoga as much as I used to. Sure, I can make up excuses for that - nursing school got more challenging, my space is limited in my new home, I’m so tired all the time with night shift - but the bottom line is just like going to the gym, consistently showing up to your yoga mat takes discipline. I’ve seen firsthand the positive effects that yoga has on my mindset - it reduces my stress, makes me happier, and fills me with a sense of calm. I still love a peaceful yoga session on my porch or an ocean front yoga session at the beach. I’m working on becoming more consistent with my yoga practice again because I know how good it makes me feel mentally and physically. I will say I never regret time I spend on my yoga mat.

For those local to San Diego, my favorite yoga class in NamaSteve’s Ocean Front Yoga in Pacific Beach. It’s a donation-based class with a spectacular ocean view! My favorite yoga to do at home is Yoga With Adriene.

Don’t Focus on the Lack

In today’s world with social media being so prevalent in our society, it’s easy to get caught up in what other people have or what they are doing. It’s easy to mindlessly scroll through posts and get envious of another person’s life because of what they’re posting. Instead of being happy for people our mind tends to turn and focus on our lack. This starts to fill your mind with thoughts like ‘I could never do that,’ or ‘that’s so expensive’. Thoughts like this flooding your mind block your abundant mindset. Don’t get me wrong, I’m guilty of this sometimes too, but when I have these thoughts, I focus on what I do have - a roof over my head with the person I love, a supportive family, a job that provides for me, etc. This will look different for everyone, but this is where gratitude journaling comes into play. If you’re focused on what you have, it’s harder to be affected by what you don’t.

Exercising your mind is just as important as exercising your body, but it takes commitment and discipline. Changing your mindset isn’t going to happen overnight. After all, it is an exercise. Being consistent, taking small steps, and giving myself grace have helped me have a more abundant mindset. I hope you find these tips useful and you have a beautiful day!
