4 Simple Toxic Free Product Swaps

Recently, I’ve been learning all about the toxins in everyday products. I’m seriously such a nerd when it comes to this sort of thing! I get so giddy finding a toxic free alternative to products I use everyday. However, as much as I enjoy learning about healthier, toxic-free swaps, it can be so overwhelming! When I first started researching and learning about just how many chemicals they put in our everyday products, I didn’t know where to start. It almost felt like it would be easier to just turn a blind eye and use products that I know could cause me harm. But instead I started to take it one product at a time and started making simple swaps, so it felt less overwhelming.

Here are some of the swaps I’ve made:

1. Toothpaste

A few months ago I started using Dr. Bronner’s peppermint toothpaste. It contains no artificial flavors or colors, preservatives, or synthetic sweeteners and is vegan & cruelty free. This toothpaste tastes great, but I will say it doesn’t foam like conventional toothpaste; however, this is because it does not contain any detergent foaming agents.

2. Dental Floss

Did you know that the slick coating on dental floss contains forever chemicals? And the worst part is, dental floss is considered a ‘medical device’ so they don’t have to disclose that information to consumers. After learning this, I was on the hunt for a dental floss alternative. When I went to Eugene, Oregon I came across Marley’s Monsters, a sustainable shop with a bamboo and charcoal dental floss alternative. I was so stoked and even tried it out in the parking lot haha. I was excited to find that the shop has an online storefront where I can stock up when I run out!

3. Deodorant

Deodorant is one of the first things I swapped when I began my journey towards a less toxic life. I’ve tried multiple different natural and aluminum free deodorants throughout the years and I’ll be honest a lot don't work or have a weird consistency. The one I’ve found to be most like ‘regular’ deodorant consistency wise is the Ivory Brand. This is free from aluminum, parabens, and phthalates.

4. Coconut Oil

I love that coconut oil is so versatile. The best part is it is completely safe to use! I’ve swapped out my body lotion for coconut oil. It leaves my skin feeling so soft and smells amazing! I’ve also stopped using makeup wipes and instead use coconut oil to remove my makeup. It works wonders! Since coconut oil is an oil, it does leave a residue on your skin. Personally, it doesn’t bother me, it makes my skin feel silky smooth. Other things you can use coconut oil for include hair masks, shaving cream, and cooking.

I strongly suggest you do your own research and educate yourself on not only what you’re putting in your body but what you’re putting on it. After all, your skin is your biggest organ!

These are products that I’ve found to be useful & I thought I’d share. I’d love to hear about your favorite toxic free products!
